The 28th commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi
Bank of Africa honors victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 at Mwulire Memorial site for #Kwibuka28 and donates 2,000,000 FRW.
For the 28th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the Management and staff of Bank of Africa paid tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi laid to rest at Mwulire Genocide Memorial in Rwamagana District and donated 2 million FRW to support further constructions and different activities of the site.
The event took place on 3rd June 2022 where the bank’s employees laid wreath on mass graves in respect of the over 26,930 Genocide victims laid at Mwulire Memorial.
Samuel Nkubito; the Executive Head of Digital and Business Development at Bank of Africa said that the visit was meant to honor slain victims and learn more about the dark history of the Genocide against the Tutsi in the area.
He went on to say that they were taken through the horror acts under which Tutsis were killed in Mwulire noting that the staff and management pledge to play a role in uprooting Genocide ideology and building a Nation without Discrimination.
“We learnt about the tragic history of dreadful moments Tutsis endured in this area. This reminds us of our responsibility again to strive for a peaceful country and play our role to ensure Rwanda is raising generations that are free of genocide ideology,” stated Nkubito.
He disclosed that the visit and donation symbolize the Bank’s commitment to stand with Genocide survivors in Mwulire.
“We cannot replace slain victims but we want you, the survivors, to know that we stand with you and will act in our power to contribute to your prosperous future,” said Nkubito.
